Measure twice, check the services once, and delivery day goes smoothly instead of turning into a second appointment.
The most frustrating call we get is the one where a brand-new appliance is sitting in a hallway because it will not fit, or cannot be connected. Almost all of it is preventable with twenty minutes of checking before delivery day.
Measure the path, not just the space
- The opening: width, height and depth, including trim and counter overhang.
- Every doorway, stairwell turn and hallway between the front door and the room.
- Handle and door-swing clearance — a fridge that fits the cavity may not open fully against an adjacent wall.
- Ventilation clearances specified in the manual, especially for built-in units.
Check the services
Confirm the outlet type and that it is on an appropriate circuit; ranges and dryers need dedicated high-voltage receptacles and the plug configuration must match. For dishwashers and fridges with water, verify a shut-off valve exists and actually closes. For gas ranges, confirm the shut-off is accessible and the connector is current.
On the day
- Clear the path and protect flooring before the truck arrives.
- Inspect for shipping damage before signing anything.
- Confirm who is removing the old unit and whether that was paid for.
- Keep the manual and model number — you will need them for warranty and parts.
“Delivery crews are not always installers. Know which one is arriving before the truck pulls up.”
